Have you ever had a moment where you were confident Jesus has taught you something. Perhaps you read a verse in the Bible or in a devotion. It caught your attention, you prayed it, wrote it down and even shared the insight with others. You even think, this illumination is going to make my day better.
Then all of the sudden you are face-to-face with a situation that changes what you just learned. The ironic thing is that by this time, if you are like me, you have already forgotten what Jesus had taught you in the quiet moment.
The other day my thirteen year old daughter, Alex, posted on her FB status, "I exist not to be made much of by God but I exist to make much of Him." This is an amazing statement for a teenager. She received a lot of good comments on her status.
By that evening she was wrestling with what God was doing in her life through basketball. We have recently moved to Ames and now she is an unknown on the basketball court. Last year she was the MVP and now nobody knows her. For some "sovereign" reason she got placed on the C-team and nobody is making much of her. She was crushed and working desperately to be faithful to the Lord in it all.
As her dad, I just cried and hurt with her. I want her to do well but more than anything, I want what God wants and I know he wants to teach her something in this. He wants her to make much of himself right where he has placed her. The question is, "Will she do that?"
Remember the seed of truth that you learn requires the heat of the sun, tilling of the soil and pounding of the rain to make it grow. Don't despise the work of God that causes us to bear fruit. For he will till the soil of your heart, so that you will live what you learn.

Let's update this thing. Excited to see you are blogging even if it is once every few months like me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement Zac. I will see what I can do.
